If you're having trouble connecting Vani MCP to Claude or using Vani tools after connecting, use the following steps to identify and resolve common issues.
If the issue continues after trying these steps, you can contact Vani support at
support@vanihq.com with the relevant connection details.
Claude cannot reach the MCP server
- Check that you entered the correct Vani MCP server URL and that it ends with /mcp.
Example: https://app.vanihq.com/mcp - Do not use a private, local, staging, or VPN-only URL unless Vani support has asked you to test one.
Claude custom connectors connect from Claude's cloud infrastructure, so the MCP server must be reachable over the public internet.
The sign-in window does not open
- Disconnect and reconnect the Vani connector from Claude settings.
- If your browser blocks pop-ups or redirects, allow them for Claude and Vani, then try again.
If you have signed in successfully but Claude cannot use Vani tools:
- Make sure the Vani connector is enabled in the current Claude conversation. Adding a connector and enabling it in a conversation can be separate steps.
- Check that your Vani account has access to the team, Space, Zone, or action you're asking Claude to work with.
The request is blocked by Vani
If Claude returns an error indicating that external AI access is disabled, check the error code:
Code | What it means | What to do |
P1004 | External AI connections are disabled for the organization, and you are an admin. | Go to Settings > Integrations and enable Allow people to connect to external GPTs or AI platforms. |
P1005 | External AI connections are disabled for the organization. | Ask your organization admin to enable external AI connections under Settings > Integrations. |
P1007 | Your admin has disabled external AI access for your account. | Ask your organization admin to go to Settings > Integrations > Manage user access and enable external AI access for your account. |
P1006 | External AI connections are disabled in your Preferences. | Open Preferences and enable Allow external AI connections. |
Claude shows a permission or access error
If Claude shows a "permission denied" or "access denied" error, your Vani role may not allow the requested action.
Ask a Vani admin or Space organizer for the required access, or ask Claude to perform a read-only task instead.
Claude keeps asking you to reconnect
Remove the Vani connector from Claude and add it again using the correct Vani MCP server URL.
This starts a fresh secure sign-in flow.
You connected to the wrong Vani data center
Remove the connector and add it again using the correct regional Vani MCP server URL.
Your Vani account and data must be in the same data center as the MCP server URL you use.
- Your Vani data center or app domain.
- The approximate time of the failed connection.
- The exact error shown in Claude.
- Whether you are using Claude Free, Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise.
- Whether you are setting up a personal connector or an organization connector.
