Frequently asked questions

Does an AI assistant get my Vani password?

No. Sign-in happens through Vani and Zoho Accounts using OAuth. After you approve access, the connected AI assistant receives permission to call Vani MCP tools, but it does not receive your password.

Can a connected AI assistant access all content in my Vani team or organization?

No. The AI assistant can only access the Spaces and content that you already have permission to access in Vani. It does not get additional access beyond your existing Vani permissions.

Can a connected AI assistant change or delete Vani content?

Yes, if you approve a tool call that performs a write action and your Vani role allows that action. Review tool requests carefully before approving actions that change or delete content.

Can admins control who uses Vani MCP?

Yes. Admins can enable or disable external AI connections for the organization and manage access for individual users from Settings > Integrations. Vani permissions, team membership, Space roles, external sharing policies, and settings in the connected AI assistant can also affect what users can access and what actions they can perform.

Can I use Vani MCP with AI assistants other than Claude?

Yes. You can use Vani MCP with Claude or connect it to other compatible AI agents.
To get started, see:
  1. Set up Vani MCP in Claude
  2. Connect Vani MCP to compatible AI agents

Why do I need to choose a regional URL?

Vani stores customer data in the selected data center. The MCP server URL must match the Vani data center where your account and workspace are hosted.

Can I use Vani MCP without an API key?

Yes. Vani MCP uses OAuth sign-in, so you do not need to create or paste an API key.

Why is my AI assistant unable to access Vani even after I connect Vani MCP?

External AI connections must be allowed at both the organization and user levels in Vani. An admin must enable external AI connections for the organization and allow access for your user account. You must also enable Allow external AI connections in your own Preferences.
If one of these settings is disabled, requests from the connected AI assistant may be blocked. If you see an error code, see Troubleshoot Vani MCP in Claude for the corresponding action.
